While i won’t dispute the points you made, and as i haven’t seen the offending picture, i will point only to its source material, Michael Lewis book of the same name. There were various footnotes (that i didn’t really pay attention to) to the statistics used, as well some attempts at explaining them, but for the most part, the book focuses primarily on Beane as a character in the human drama of a major league front office. History tells us who won the World Series and who had the best record, but for someone known for writing about money, i never really got the sense that Michael Lewis really cared that much about the numbers. The characters in the book were Beane, The System, and The Team (with comic relief provided by The Scouts), and i imagine the movie reflects that. It might be a nice introduction to the theory of Moneyball, but it’s hardly a primer. In my humble opinion.
